Richard McLaren is a distinguished international sports lawyer and professor in the Faculty of Law at Western University, Canada. A member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport the past twenty years, he has served as an arbitrator at five Olympic Games. McLaren has played leadership roles in major investigations, including the Mitchell Report on Steroids in Major League Baseball and an Inquiry with U.S.A. Track and Field. He is currently one of three Commissioners on the WADA Independent International Commission examining allegations of cover ups and corruption in doping matters with Russian sportspersons. He has conducted work with many international sports federations, including FIA, ATP, WTA & the Tennis Integrity Unit, PGA Tour, NHL and the ICC. McLaren is also president of the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) dealing with professional basketball monetary issues in Europe.
He is a sought-after speaker and educator who is chairman emeritus of the Advisory Board,National Sports Law Institute at Marquette University Faculty of Law, as well as a specialadvisor to the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution Pepperdine University Faculty of Law.McLaren also has affiliations with China University of Political Science and Law (Beijing);Kings College, University of London (England); ISDE (Spain); St. John's School of Law (NewYork); and Melbourne University Law School (Australia).
