Josoor Institute - a centre of excellence for the sports and events industries that is inspired and developed by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) – has successfully completed the second cohort of its professional certificate and diploma programmes, with the 82 delegates graduating in the fields of “Major Events Management” and “Football and Sports Management”.

The programmes were designed and delivered by Georgetown University, the University of Liverpool and Leeds Beckett University. The partners offered unparalleled support in the delivery by not only bringing exceptional academic knowledge, but also by sharing a wealth of experience and providing delegates with numerous practical learning opportunities. Many delegates also undertook an additional project management module, designed specifically for Josoor Institute and delivered online.

The graduating delegates came from 25 countries including Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, Syria, Palestine, Australia, Canada, India and Somalia, among others, and from a range of organisations including the SC, Aspire Zone Foundation, Aspire Academy, Qatar Football Association and Qatar University, among others.

After completing their 12-month journey at Josoor Institute, the graduates leave equipped to deliver world-class sporting and non-sporting events across Qatar and the region. The latest class follows the success of the first cohort, which was completed in November 2016, with 68 delegates graduating. In a major shift from the first cohort, the second was for the first time completed by a female majority, making up 51% of the class.

Congratulating the delegates and addressing the august gather, H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi the Secretary General of the SC said, “Josoor Institute is an important element of why the 2022 FIFA World Cup goes far beyond the borders of Qatar.  Through Josoor we are providing a platform to develop human capital and capacity, and to develop talent in the region that fuels the sporting industry for decades to come. The graduating delegates are now part of that future, and can now also play their part in developing and nurturing future generations.”

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, senior members from various organisations and alumni from Josoor Institute’s programmes. Dr. Ahmad S. Dallal, Dean of Georgetown University in Qatar addressed delegates to congratulate them on their respective achievements. As part of his address, Dr. Dallal stated: “Georgetown University is proud to be part of this endeavor, and remains committed to nurture the talents and train the professionals who will deliver this and other prestigious events in Qatar, which will reinforce Qatar’s reputation as a premier destination for sports and mega events.”

Dr. Rick Parry, former chief executive of Liverpool Football Club and former head of the FA Premier League also delivered an inspiring speech to the graduates. Also speaking was Ali Alajmi who previously worked with the Oman Football Federation. Alajmi is a Josoor Institute alumnus from the first cohort of the Football Sports Management Diploma programme. He shared his experience on what motivated him to join Josoor Institute and his life after completing the programme.
