The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy’s (SC) Community Engagement team, in collaboration with the Josoor Institute, delivered a workshop titled ‘Developing Skills in Organising & Sponsoring Football Tournaments’ for members of professional sporting bodies in Qatar.
The two-day session attracted experts and professionals from local and regional events organisers. Attendees discussed the importance of grassroots football tournaments, best practices for fund sourcing and the aspects required for organising successful events, including the key elements of planning, budgeting, staffing, marketing and stakeholder collaboration.
The workshop was attended by SC Ambassador and beIN Sports Senior Presenter, Mohammed Saadon Al Kuwari. Also in attendance were Saif Al Bazirgan, Founder and General Manager of Ultra Sports, Joseph El Kharrat, Founder and General Manager of Integrated Engagement Communication, and Abdullah Al Roudan, Head of the Organising Committee for Al Roudan Football Tournament. Also among the delegates were employees from Qatar Football Association, Qatar Olympic Committee and Aspire, along with representatives from various local football clubs and youth centres.
Commenting on the successful delivery of the workshop, the SC’s Community Engagement Manager, Mead Al Emadi, said: “We organised the workshop as we feel it’s important to share the knowledge we have gained in this area as we seek to leave a strong legacy for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.”
Al Emadi: “During Ramadan 2016, we supported 12 tournaments in Qatar and across the region. It goes without saying that such endeavours support our mission to collaborate with local, regional and international stakeholders to launch football initiatives that will leave a lasting social legacy for future generations.
“The SC will continue to support grassroots tournaments during Ramadan. This commitment forms part of the Community Engagement team’s wider objectives of sharing our enthusiasm for football, increasing access to sport and educating people on the importance of leading healthy lifestyles.”
Former tennis professional Al Kuwari, who was announced as an SC Ambassador earlier this year, praised the workshop.
He said: “It’s important to support grassroots football tournaments and recognise the role they play in promoting social change within communities. Additionally, we need to remember that organising such events will always create positive and long-term effects on people and society in general.”
A key part of the SC’s commitment to delivering a lasting legacy for Qatar and the region, the Community Engagement team provides a platform for open discussions with Qatar’s local communities about the opportunities the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ will bring.
As well as informing, engaging and preparing communities for future change, the team regularly receives their feedback, concerns and expectations about tournament plans.
The SC is also conducting community outreach work to build awareness of the many economic, sustainable, political, social and health benefits the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ will bring. Through education, sport, volunteering, community outreach, and arts and culture initiatives, the Community Engagement team engages with a diverse array of communities and individuals.
